A non-dominant hand, intuitive painting rich in Story and Meaning
The Moose emerged on an old scrap of paper. His disillusionment at giving his love so freely from his great big pink and orange neon Heart brought his self-esteem & confidence crashing down.
This led him to make a brand new decision - to leave and move towards Love.
When I began creating this, I wanted to be as real as I could be and so I intended working with my non dominant Hand - which is not easy - yet... it has so many wonderful rewards to it!
When we write or paint with our non-dominant hand, we are in touch with our most real, truest Selves.
We are not conforming nor adapting but in our most authentic 'voice'.
This does not always quieten our Inner Critic or the Cultural Parent, however it does make it easier to be real and true. We can give up the goal of making 'beautiful' art and be curious about the process.
I find it easier to be more intuitive and immediate. I can listen to myself as I process and notice so much more than when I create with my dominant hand.
In the beginning, I had no idea what I was going to work on. I suddenly became interested in the sheet of wallpaper lining that was lying on my table. I had created around five paintings against it and was beginning to look messy with broken bits of oil pastels, glitters and paint marks. I had an urge to scrape more gold acrylic paint around and catch all the bits that were lying around to make a textured background.
It wasn't long before I 'saw' a Moose or Elk which grabbed my attention and became the feature of my Story.
Who was he? Where was he going? He looked meek, lonely and defeated.
When we 'see' images in our art, in the same way we can see shapes up in the clouds... we can listen to ourselves and notice any story which begins to formulate.
I allowed it all to develop and as you will see and hear in my video,
the Moose has quite a story and makes a New Decision which will raise his self esteem and confidence!
He was a 'he', he appeared to leaving, he was meek yet he had antlers which gave him protection!
As the painting unfolded, the Moose turned out NOT to be so alone after all.

I invite you to find something you may not usually create upon, like an old scrap of paper, or the side of a sturdy cardboard box that has been discarded. wallpaper lining that you've been working against.
You might prefer to begin afresh and that is fine, on a new canvas, or sturdy acrylic paper.
Whatever you would like to use, please use.
I invite you to try creating a totally non dominant hand painting - which this is -
and to make marks intuitively and just see what you can 'see'.
Notice how you feel. Gaze into your mark making and just see what happens. If you are struggling to 'see' anything, please take photos and share them in my online community where I will meet you
I am pretty quick to spot all manner of symbols and images in a painting and will share what I see. Others in my group might also share what they see too.
Just because we can 'see' what we see, you may not see the same thing. This is ok... we are all different and we will 'see' what we see depending on what is happening in our lives and what we may need to work on.
As you will see from my video, I needed to work on 'love' and 'giving' way too much!
This is just one tiny way in which I work within my Therapeutic Approach.

I do love to see the final layer and what you have created but I am VERY interested in the process you go through, the way you relate with yourself, the struggles you may have with yourself and your inner critic as well as the cultural parent.
I'm not hung up on if a painting is 'beautiful' or not...
I care about helping people grow and become more who they truly are and let go of conditioning and shackles that hold them back from being themselves and ultimately, happy.
I am very interested in real, gritty self expression that 'speaks' of who we are not false exteriors and adapted selves. The more real, true, gritty and raw we are, the less stress we experience and happier we become.
